I have recently been on holiday in Hawaii (bliss!) and couldn’t help myself with snapping some of the latest summer windows and checking out the Waikiki shopping scene. Here are my finds…
Shopping
Definitely your number one shopping destination is the Ala Moana Center. There are pink trolley buses which take you there for a mere $2.00 and it’s only a short ride from Waikiki beach. This is the world’s largest open-air mall and it houses well-known international labels such as Betsey Johnson, Escada, & Miu Miu to name a few of the 96 women’s clothing & accessory stores.
The main shopping strip in Waikiki is called Kalakaua Avenue. It’s the main road parallel to the beach and many of the big hotels surround it. International designers such as Prada, Dior & Chanel are part of a section called ‘Luxury Row’. (These labels also have stores at Ala Moana). There are several smaller shopping plazas that branch off from this street also.
Further along the strip towards the Duke Kahanamoku statue you will find these little local gems. San Lorenzo which specialise in playful bikini’s and beach separates & Sand People which is a Hawaiian based homewares & gifts company – all things nautical & beach inspired for the home.
Eating
When in Waikiki you must eat at Dukes. It’s along the beachfront so you can watch the surfers and waves roll in while you sip on cocktails. It’s named after the very famous Hawaiian Olympian / Surfer Duke Kahanamoku & the interior of the restaurant pays homage to him giving the atmosphere a very authentic Hawaiian feel.
Mahalo!
